Fence Fiasco is Fini! / Installation of the fence

Before gate install
After gate install

Yesterday morning our backyard fence was completed!
It was a late Christmas Miracle That this fence was ever completed.....
Here is the beginning to the story:

Anyway, The measurements for the fence were taken in October 2014.
They gave us an estimated installation date of Mid-November.

That time came and passed.

They installed the chain link fence in December.
And did not install the wrought iron gate across the porch
because they ordered the wrong size spacing in between the bars
( we have a tiny dog that can squeeze thru tiny spaces, so that had to be fixed).

So they ordered the gate again....it came back with the wrong size spacing AGAIN.

They ordered it again for the 3rd time...this time the gate was too wide for the porch...

They ordered the gate for the 4th time, and this time is was correct!

We waited 4 months for this gate, that
was supposed to take 4 weeks.

we can now let the dogs play in the yard!

 So happy this is done!

He's Back / Tyler's Mission Homecoming

This post has nothing to do with the
renovation/restoration of our home...
But I wanted to
post a lil update on the homecoming of my Brother
Tyler Ostler!

Tyler left for his mission to
Vladivostok Russia in January
2013!
And he returned home February 4th, 2015!

we flew to Denver the same day Tyler
flew into the Denver airport.
We got there a few hours before he did...and tried to entertain the boys
in the airport while we waited for
Tyler to get off his plane.

His plane ended up being late, so we were at the airport for 4 hours
waiting....but that gave us time to make a welcome sign etc!

The boys waiting for Uncle Ty

Shiloh meeting Uncle Ty for 1st time!...haha

Elder Ty home at last!

Wearing Russian hats

The Russsian hat that shiloh is wearing is made of DOG...yes, Dog!

Caden helping Uncle Ty with his luggage...haha
January 2013

February 2015

The whole fam (minus Caden)!

It was so good to see Ty again,
and hear his fluent Russian....
It was also amazing to hear his testimony of Christ, Heavenly Father etc!
He even sang a church hymn in RUSSIAN for the congregation.
I had no idea he could sing!
Congrats Ty, job well done!

Going Postal / Adding a 4th bedroom

If you enter our home from the side door,
you are welcomed in by
an awkwardly LONG room.

Our home is one of the original homes in this neighborhood.
When this area was being developed in the early 1900's
they used this part of our home for the city
post office,
until the city built a free standing post office.
(hence, the extra exterior door and awkward shape)

When we first moved in,
it became a playroom/office/weird area.

The room is 29 feet deep
and 11.5 feet wide
(it is hard to tell how weird the dimensions are in the pics)
It's almost 3 times as deep as it is wide!
Anyway,
we decided to break up the space and turn this
3 bed room home into a 4 bedroom home.
Which is a better money maker when
we decide to sell.
(no, we are not moving anytime soon!)
Whenever you decide to put $ into your home,
you should always consider the value it will
add when you sell the home.
Unless you plan to live in that home FOREVER,
than it doesn't matter what you do!

This area will become our new playroom/guest room/4th bedroom!

It will have solid wood french doors,
so we can keep the openness of
the current room, while giving the whole room better function-ability!

We could save a lot of money if we were to use a plain solid door that doesnt have glass,
but that I think that would decrease value...therefore, this is one of the times you don't wanna save $

We will be using the room for a play room,
but when guests come to visit, they can use this room as a bedroom..
I think it would also make an awesome office area for people who don't need a play area!
The framing began this morning!!
