For Sale

Our house been on the market for about
4 weeks now.
We have had about 16 scheduled showings,
and 2 open houses,
Which equals about 28 families
viewing the home

The open houses brought
a decent amount of people thru the home,
but none of them were pre-qualified to buy yet.

Most of the people looking at the home
so far are either young couples,
or much older couple.
Not much in between.

Having a home on the market with
two babies under age 2,
2 dogs,
and one husband on the mend from shoulder surgery
is a tad stressful.....
But I can do this (maybe, ha)!

They only have to give us an hours notice for a
showing....and keeping the house
constantly perfect with two babies  may drive me
to an over consumption of Dr Pepper and
Snickers ice cream bars...

Moving on....maybe.....

Shaun was out of the office doing some business
In an area called "the highlands"...
He walked pass An amazing old home that had a sign that said "nostalgic home".
They were a real estate company that specializes in selling old homes.
He stopped in and showed them a few pics
Of our house that he had on his phone,
And asked what they thought it was worth.

The real estate market in the Denver area has sky rocketed in price since last year when we bought
Our home....so we were curious to see the new worth of the home.

They sent out an agent a few days later to see the home,
And a few days after that we went to the nostalgic homes office to see
The rough appraisal.

After hearing the new appraisal
We decided to put our home on the market....
Why you ask?
We had only lived in it for 8 months....
Here is why we decided to put the home on the market:

It is only 2 bed rooms on the main floor, leaving us very little room for a very fast growing family
(aka 2 kids under two years old)

The neighborhood does not have a lot of kids

No garage, which is hard with two kids while it's raining/snowing

We had potential to make some money, which we would use for a down payment on the next home
(Giving us a potential for a lower monthly mortgage on another home)

And if it doesn't sell for what we want, we can stay in it for a while.....

Wish us luck!!!!

The smurf bathroom makeover

Our bathroom was a a horrible blue
Color, with matching counter tops
And backsplash....
It screamed 1984
And did not give the amazing old claw foot tub
Any attention...it took all the attention to the walls.

If we had more money to renovate right now,
We would have
Redone the ceramic floors and counter top and back splash...
But instead we got a shower curtain
That complemented the ugly blue counters etc,
And painted the walls a very light blue.
The lighter blue paint made the very slim bathroom
Seem a little bigger and
The shower curtain made the counters seem a little more normal.

Once again, this is not a finished job, it is a small makeover for the moment!
It is very plain right now, but at least it does not resemble an Easter egg anymore!

Cost:
Shower curtain $4 (at Ross)
Paint $22

Kitchen paint job

Our kitchen had a weird green faux paint job
That made the room look dirty/dingy.

It also had a custom tile floor pattern that
the Previous owners had done...so we had to paint the walls a
Complementing color.

We chose a lighter green color,
And Shaun did the painting

We used a coupon at ace hardware and got the gallon
Of paint for $16...
An easy cheap makeover!

Better cover up!

When we bought this home, it was a foreclosure
And therefore we bought it "as is".

A few of the water base heaters along the floor did not have covers...
At a cost of $22/ft.
It had to wait to be fixed, especially since we had about 28 feet that needed covers.

Shaun met a plumber that came in to his office, and Shaun asked
Him how much he would charge us to
Do the work.

You have to use a plumber, because they do not just sell covers...
You have to replace the whole system.
And when you replace the copper plumbing that runs thru
The heaters, you also have to "bleed" the pipes (whatever that means)

Along with all that, he had to weld the new copper piping to the old...which meant the use
Of a small blow torch.
All in all, it was an all day job and he only charged us
$450
Instead of A LOT more!

(The 450 also included the installation of the new faucet in our claw foot tub)

After heat covers were replaced

Laundry room painted

I took took the babies on a little weekend away to my grandmas house,
And while I was gone Shaun had painted
The laundry room!

We chose a gray color, (by Sherwin Williams)
And luckily it goes with the cheap peel and stick laminate
That is already on the floor in the room.
If we were to fully finish the room we would put in
Black and white checker board pattern
Ceramic tile.....but  that is a project for later

It's not finished, but it is better!

Baby boy nursery d.o.n.e!

Sorry it has been over two months since I updated
You all on what's
Going on at the hundred year old house we call home...
Well first of all,
Our baby boy was born in June!
And thus, we spend a lot more time in
The baby room.
Our two boys now share the room,
But for now, the newest addition is in a bassinet in our room.

About a month before the baby was born we took a trip to ikea...
We walked the oversized store for about an hour before finding the dressers....
Our 17 month old was in a cranky mood and cried most the trip....
We picked the cheapest dresser ($140)
And went to the area of the store where you pick up the merchandise you
Picked out in the show room...
And found out the boxes were barely too big to fit in our car.

My pregnant and hungry body almost lost its mind in disappointment.
I left the store angry and vowed never to come back

The next day we found a dresser sitting on the side of the road
With a "free" sign on it.

Haha what are the odds?
It wasn't the best looking dresser, but whatever, it fit!

Here is the first layout we had for the boys room

And here is the second layout my mom helped me put together
