Ninja Turtles from Grama and Gramps

Caden is so proud of his lil bedroom
renovation, and I am so glad I
threw my nautical theme out
the window and embraced his idea
of a Ninja Turtle room.
I took his ideas and mixed them with some of mine,
we added a few more super heroes to the mix and Voila!

(Luckily I was able to talk him out of the Ninja
Turtle Bed spread and orange paint!)

He's Happy and I'm Happy...
On to the next room!

Easy as CRC / How to Decoupage anything

I went to Hobby Lobby looking for some
letters to help decorate Caden's room.

I asked one of the store associates where the
letters were, and she said they
had different kinds of letters all over the store.

SHE WASNT KIDDING!
They had Large wood letters that were already painted,
they had wood letters that were stained,
they had large metal letters that had lights aroung them,
they had metal galvanized letters,
they had cardboard letters,
etc etc.

I loved the metal galvanized letters,
but I didnt want to pay $30 each letter,
since it wasn't the focus piece of the room.

So I went wit the $2.99 wood letters,
and decoupaged the 2 "C's" and painted the "R"

Decoupaging is a super cheap way to
customize anything from wooden letters to
an old thrifted lampshade
(Yes, me and an old roommate did that with clippings we
found in old magazines, and it looked awesome!)
AND DECOUPAGING IS EASY,
Check it out:

12" Wooden letters

Trace the letter onto the paper you want to attach to the wood

Cut out the paper letter that you traced

Paint the edges of the letters before you Paint on a layer of Mod Podge to the wood letter

place the paper letter on top of the wet mod podge, let that dry and than do a final sealing layer on top of the paper

Get inspiration from anything...I got the inspirtion for this "R" in an elle decor magazine. That is a picture of a book cover!

I also did a final sealant layer over the painted "R", so it would have the same "shiny" finish.

Total Cost:
$8.97 (3 wood letters)
$.50 (striped scrapbook paper)
$0 Paint was from projects I did years ago
$0 modge podge was from old projects I did about 8 years old

TOTAL $9.47

Super Awesome Super Hero Decor / Caden's bedroom plans

The package I ordered from IKEA
came today!
I ordered a few picture ledges and some
picture frames for Cadens Room.
That cute baby looks just as excited as I was to see this package!

His room decoration had been on hold for about
6 weeks because I originally bought yellow
paint for his room, thinking I was going to
do a nautical theme....
But After searching for boyish Nautical
themed decor, I gave up!
We decided to do a Super Hero Room,
which was much more fitting for him anyway!

After I found these pictures at Ross,
(for an amazing deal)
I decided that the original yellow paint I
had bought was no longer going to
look good....
since most of the pictures had a LARGE
amount of yellow.

So I took the blue paint I used for the hallway project,
see it here:

AND added some leftover cream paint from the
room addition,
see it here:

And voila, I had the perfect color for Caden's
Super Hero Room!

Now that I have the pictures all ready,
and the IKEA package has arrived,
Tomorrow I will finally fill the blank space on
all his walls.....with THESE:

Closing the french doors on this project / 4th bedroom done

The fourth bedroom/playroom/guestroom is done!

Our contractor gave
us a good deal...and he did exceptional work!
framing began 3 weeks ago, and it would
not have
taken so long, but the painting kept me behind.

MONEY SAVING TIP:
If you have any contracting work done that
includes drywall etc...if you tell them you are going
to do all the priming/painting, they will give you a much better deal!

Here is the link to more "before" pics

Framing

Primed!
After the drywall was complete I had to prime it.
ALWAYS PRIME BARE DRYWALL BEFORE PAINTING!
If you skip the priming step, the drywall will suck up a ton
of your paint, and you will end up needing a lot more paint than
you would have, had you primed.
(And that equals more money in paint)

Painted
 The door came unprimed,
so I had to prime one side...let that dry
and than prime the other side and let that dry...
Paint one side...let that dry
and than paint the other side and let that dry...
Finished
And since there are two doors, I had to do that two times over!
FINALLY!  The walls are primed/painted, the doors are primed/painted..
Now I just need to add some large trim on
the outside wall (The trim on the inside of the room is done).

BEFORE...an extra long odd shaped room, missing some wood flooring and lacking trim
AFTER....a playroom with french doors.  More welcoming, more function, 4th bedroom=more home value!
